Anyone know of a nursery in the Spring Hill or Brooksville area that sells native plants? I moved down from Ohio about a year ago and would like to get some more plants for the yard. Had several hard freezes this last winter I think I've lost some of my plants.

Sunshine4me: I'm in Spring Hill and I use All Native Nursery who is in San Antonio, FL. They are a native nursery and are only open to the public on the first Saturday of each month but don't believe they have started their retail days yet. Their website is: allnativeflora.com. The Hernando Master Gardener's Plant Sale is April 10th at the old extension office which is a good place to pick up plants but not all plants are native. There is also: Hickory Hill Nursery in Brooksville (call first): 352-754-9701. Rita Grant has a nursery which I believe is located off Ayers Road. Her email is: smokduck@wildblue.net. She has always been very helpful to me. The Hernando Native Plant society will be at the Chinsequt Birding and Wildlife Festival April 16-17 selling plants. And finally, check out: www.afnn.org for other nurseries. I would highly recommend buying coral honeysuckle vine and tropical sage. If you can wait for a while, I can give you some tropical sage...mine spreads like wildfire. I have both red and pink and the hummers just love it. That should get you started!!! ;D Betsy Hernando County, FL

Thanks for the information. I just moved here last April so I'm trying to add to the flower beds that was here. Several plants had already been planted for the birds and butterflies but I don't know what some are. I could use some of the tropical sage when it comes available. Just email me. I may have some things you need in exchange. I will try and find the addresses to the nursery and festival. Don't know where the old extension office is. Thank You, Donna

Donna:
"The Hernando County Master Gardeners will hold their Spring Plant Sale on Saturday, April 10th at the Hernando County Master Gardener Nursery from 9 a.m. UNTIL noon. The Master Gardener Nursery is located at 19490 Oliver St. in Brooksville." (from the Extension's website)
Chinsegut Nature Center is off of Lake Lindsey Road. The Birding and Wildlife Festival is alot of fun to go to. Their website has a map and schedule of events.
I'll let you know when my tropical sage is ready for a thinning out! I'm just starting a larger butterfly garden so I would love to exchange for some butterfly plants.
