Hi,
I live about 15 minutes from the Airport in Jacksonville, Florida.
The last time I spotted a Hummer was October 2, 2012 at my feeder which is located in my backyard.
My father lived about 10 minutes from me. I was amazed how the Hummers came to his feeder. That prompt me to buy a feeder.
He hasn't seen a hummer since October 2012.
I just keep the feeder clean and watch.

Hi - I am not into bird watching but amazed and excited to just have spotted, I think, a 'Adult male Black-chinned Hummingbird' hovering at our Hibiscus bush here in Davenport Florida 33897. That possible? Joe

Joe, It's possible but I believe you probably saw an adult male ruby-throated. The black-chinned is very uncommon to rare in central Fl. But more often than not a ruby-throated viewed at an angle will display their gorgets as black to the human eye rather than their true color. I have hundreds of photos taken at an angle that show the gorget as black and when the bird turns and looks at the lens, lo and behold its really brilliant red! If he stays around try to get a better look and preferably with a binoculars. Joe M. Lakeland

Thanks JoeM - I've seen it again, along with his partner and I'm sure its the male ruby-throated. It was fantastic this morning I was sitting in the early morning sunshine by our Hibiscus bush, heard what I thought was a mower in the distance, then realised it was hovering about 2ft from my nose. They both visit regularly so I have my camera to hand from now on! If I get a photo I will certainly post it. Cheers Joe (away from home in Scotland - where we definitely do not get humming birds!)

I spotted a Hummer on 04/01/13 and 04/10/13 at my feeder in the
backyard. Each time the HB was at the feeder about 5 seconds.
It might be the same one. I live close to the airport. Just hang in
there. I have very few sighting also. I just happen to look out the
window. I think both my sighting were a female RT.

We're still getting regular visits to the feeder by at least two RTs. Last night we watched a female feeding on the feeder and hunting in the oaks and elms. Another hummer approached but flew off quickly. This morning watched FRT feeding for quite awhile on red shrimp plant and feeder. I'm in Haines City

I must have a family of 5 or 7 hummingbirdsin the immediate area. They are feeding on a red droopy vine flowering on my fence. I've seen them last 3 days. Sarasota, FL

I am worried. We saw hummingbirds early morning around 8 A.M. back around the end of April. Then I saw the little one again one evening about sundown time same week. And since I have not seen him or he is in and out fast. Actually, I have not seen any like I have in years gone by. The only thing that worries me is maybe my fault. I moved the feeder out from under the tree as squirrels were getting on it and chewing out the white plastic circles that limited amount of fluid that could be reached. Then they were on and off until most of liquid gone. We finally placed feeder this year out from under the trees and have a baffle under it on a shepherds pole as always but the baffle has stopped the squirrels and away from tree limbs stops the squirrels from jumping from above onto the feeder. This is working great. When I saw the hummingbird, there were cardinals, turtle doves about 3 to 4 feet away from that feeder at the same time. I wonder if it was too close to the 4 regular bird feeders and caused the hummingbird to leave. The feeders have never been so close together. My fire bushes are starting to bloom. They love them. The native hibiscus trees have not bloomed but are close to blooming. These bushes may help. I have desert marigolds that are blooming profusely but they never liked those. They do visit the sage red blooms. To be honest, I really wonder what has happened. Since I have all the notes within this group, I have decided not to put my feeder away in December this year in Daytona. I have been taking two of them down from December until early March as I never saw any when it was so cold. I was surprised some of you have seen them all Winter long but it could be warmer Sarasota than Daytona. I usually have two feeders up but I do not see any reason to do this until visits. I change the feeder liquid every 3 days as it was not until this week more so. As soon as I see cloudiness, I change the liquid. If any of you have any other ideas, let me know. I am disappointed in how many have visited.

I was amazed this morning when a bright metallic green humming bird enjoyed the blooming fire bush plant and lantana . Also I have some honey suckle in bloom right now that maybe attracting then. This little lady hovered endlessly. I wish I could have got it on video. I live in Orlando and this was the third sighting in 1 week in my backyard.
