I heard a familiar chip in my yard this evening and instantly knew that a Rufous/Allen's was around. It took a little time but I finally found an adult female Rufous/Allen's in the Flowering Maple in my front yard. I assume she's Rufous #2 from last year but since she was never banded, we never know for sure. Attached is a photo of the bird that shows an adult female Rufous/Allen's. The quality's not good but it shows the rufous flanks and the central gorget spot.
