Re: Bander visiting West Central and Central Fl Jan '15
A heads up for those with Hummers visiting feeders from Gainesville to Tampa and west to the Polk Co. Orlando area! Fred Bassett, national known hummingbird bander from Mantgomery, AL plans to band in the area mentioned, starting in Gainesville on the 17th of Jan. and working his way south and east over the next few days, and would be interested in banding your hummers!
If you are interested in observing a "banding", meeting Fred and learning more about hummers, please e-mail him at fhound@aol.com, with your location and contact info!
Your hummers "must" be visiting feeders in your yard on a regular basis!!!!

Fred banded 8 birds in my Valrico yard on Tuesday. He banded the adult male Rufous Hummingbird and 7 Ruby-throateds: four young males, two adult males, and an adult female.

Fred B. got to Lakeland on the 18th and we made the rounds locally with several Ruby-throated captured and banded. At first light a Rufous and Ruby-throat at Mary B's home and went down to Sebastian and got another three Ruby-throated at Becky C's home. . In the afternoon Fred finished up with another three Ruby-throated at my home . Not a bad trip for him but we need to get more of you folks here in central FL involved. Fred tries to come down here the third week of Jan. every year so keep him in mind and really make his trip down here from Mongomery, AL, worthwhile!
