Hello, I have been watching my garden for years waiting for a hummingbird, and finally! Yesterday morning and today, had one feeding on my fire bush. I don't know much about hummingbirds, but the coloring was a bit drab, so I think it was a female ruby-throat. I live in Cooper City (greater Fort Lauderdale area).

Laura, both look similar but the male is shorter and will have the red patch under his throat, young males look the same as females for about 3-5 months. females always have white tips on there tail feathers. hope that helps
