First hummingbirds showed up at my feeder on Monday morning. Kendall Drive near the turnpike. one male other female or immature male, both drank heavily. Came exactly with the first blooms of the Butterfly tree (also called Hong Kong Orchid).

Buddleja "Butterfly Bush" and Bauhinia blakeana "Hong Cong Orchid" flowers are quite different and I suspect you have the "Hong Cong Orchid" which is known to attract hummers, is not invasive and does very well in Southern FL. The Buddleja rarely exceeds 10-15' in height and most descripions of this plant describe it as a bush rather than a tree. Regardless of nomenclature its great you are seeing hummers in your yard and having success attracting them.

Yeah you're right. I just remember calling them that since i was a little kid because their leaves were shapped like butterfly wings.
