Got video of a female Ruby Throat buzzing around Fire bush (Hamelia Patens) Sunday early evening. Just witnessed another sighting today around the same bush (this time early afternoon). I have only ever had 2 sightings a year in all my life of living here in Pinellas. Can we go for a record third??

I spotted a female ruby throat around my trumpet vine today, Friday, 8/11, at around 4pm. I live in St Pete Beach. I was so excited and surprised, I almost dropped my glass. It took a short rest on one of the vines before it continued checking out the menu.

She's been around all week, surprisingly, and then a few days after my first post I saw two of them, flying in circles, landing together high on an Angel Trumpet branch. It was the coolest thing EVER. I know they will probably move on, but I desperately hope they found a new home here.

Carrie, Just a word of caution about the Angel Trumpet, it is quite toxic if any parts of it were ingested! Now you should be pleased to have a couple birds in the yard, do you maintain a feeder? No guarantee they will use it but the probability is very high if they are familiar with them having used them on their journey south, stopping to rest and refuel in your yard. Once they have decided your yard is a good stopping spot they may stay the winter but if they don't they will remember and stop by on their trip back. Hope you see many more!

We have two HB's that seem to like our back yard quite a bit. We have two feeders and plenty of plants that they both seem to like too. The (male) Green back and the (female) brownish grey we guess, come and go. We love watching them do their thing. Back and forth from the tree line to the feeders or flowers throughout the day. We live in Pasco County and feel blessed that we have our two little visitors.
