I spotted the first RTHB of the year at the end of April. Did not see any during May. Had several sitings in June, July and August. Since Sept. 10, I have had HB visitors every day throughout the day. sometimes 2 birds at the same time, although they were usually fighting. So that's been just over 2 months of daily visits. One bird was even feeding on the firebush plants during hurricane Irma. I've been living here for over 10 years and this is the most activity I have ever seen. I have several firebushes in the front yard and a tray type feeder in the front window, the birds feed on both periodically throughout the day. I planted the largest firebush in October of 2016 and it is already almost 6 feet tall and just as wide. I highly recommend the firebushes, I have 2 types, calusa firebush and hamelia patens. I live approximately 20 miles east of Naples.
