3 or 4 years since one graced my yard. I probably verify one in my yard every 3 or 4 years. Have never had a return Black-chin! Have one still hanging around and Fred banded her in Jan.

I have a black-chin that hangs around my house, he runs everything else off. I was sittin in the back yard a couple of days ago and i heard a loud buzzin sound, i looked around a there were 2 hummers fighting. One was my little black-chin and the other was a pretty green bird with a red neck.....the black-chin run the other one off. He sure is a territorial little feller. The bottom pic hes sitting on the limb to your left. Attachments:

Photos taken through a fence screws up the auto focus on most cameras. I'm also in Lakeland and have verified "in hand, black-chinned" so I'm reasonably qualified to say it more likely is a ruby-throated since I can't see any graduated color on the gorget. Purple above predominantly black! In addition the black-chinned is a fairly unaggressive bird and unlikely to chase off another hummer of a different species.

The reason i thought it was a black chin was because of it's size,it's a very small bird. The one it was fighting with was a pretty green bird and about twice the size of the regular bird. I'm just learning about these little fellers. but i've had a bird around here for about 10 or 12 years. I know they don't live that long so it must be different birds but they look the same, and about the same size.
