Saw my first hummingbird moth today around 12:30 pm. I believe this is a Nessus Sphinx moth. We had several different types last year and I'm hoping that will be the case again this year.

Plumbago seems to be a good flower for sphinx moths. Two of my photos of sphinx moths are on plumbago as well. I've received many reports of hummingbirds feeding at Plumbagos and Vinca (Periwinkle) that wound up being moths.

I to have found these delightful creatures in my garden around my plumbagos. And I live in lake wales/baboon park border. I hope they stay around for a while as they are so soothing to watch.

Jamie, Glad to hear folks reporting hummers in Polk Co. which indicates that hummers are planning for either a return to Central America or a place to spend the winter. A little early to know and in the past I only felt fairly certain they would stay for the winter was when they were around in mid to late Nov. I'm still hosting a couple of dozen hummers in MA passing through on their journey south. They have been passing through here for the past few weeks, I had my peak numbers in early Aug. Hopefully I'll have my usual 5-6 hummers this winter after I get back to Lakeland, next month.
