I observed 16 hummingbirds in my Valrico yard today. A flurry of activity between 1 and 3 pm brought out most of them. Two hours of non-stop chasing. I'm assuming it was the arrival of a few new birds after the freezes of the past three nights. The 16 birds were: 1 Rufous 2 Black-chinneds (maybe 3) 13 Ruby-throateds (3 females, 4 adult males, and 6 young males) The young male Ruby-throateds were identified based on their different patterns of gorget feathers.

Does anyone know of a public place which attracts humminbirds to "natural" areas i.e., flowers - not feeders? Sodicm@temple.edu

Sodicm, What area of the state are you willing to travel to? My yard east of Tampa had been a good place for photographing hummingbirds at flowers prior to the most recent freeze. I assume there are still places in the south that still have flowers.
