Hello everyone I moved to Florida 7 years ago and have not spotted one hummingbird since i moved here. Back home we had loads. I know they must be here as i see plenty of hummingbird feeders for sale everywhere i go. I just moved from the Tampa area to Clearwater i put out a feeder plenty early and have had nothing. Will they come to this area and if so when and how long will they stay? if they are here how the heck can i get them to my yard and if i get them there can i entice them to stay longer?

I ask the same question last year and I found that you must make your yard an attraction for them to come. I put up red plastic cups in my bushes and hung them on my porch and from my trees and they came. Some even tried to drink from the upside down cups, hitting them thinking they were a place they could get a drink. Hope this helps.

Good idea "Friendly", the red cups! I prefer orange, iridescent surveyors tape. Has worked for me over the years and you can tie 5-6" strips near the feeders to help. Lasts for about a year and it's cheap! Joe M. Lakeland

Hi,
I put a feeder up 3 days ago and have had at least 3 different hummers coming to feed throughout the day. I am in Dunedin. Try a splash of color near your feeder. I put a tray of Cosmos, that I purchased from Lowes, underneath mine.

Why don't you plant some hibiscus bushes. The birds should have bushes and flowers nearby to attract hummingbirds. They are considered pollinators and benefit by having flowers and bushes nearby.
