Do you have feeders out? What kind of flowers are there for them to feed on?

Live in Ocala Florida the other day I saw a hummingbird flying around my back patio so I got my feeder out and hung it and haven’t seen a hummingbird since. So disappointed. What months in Ocala should I see hummingbirds ?

I live in St Pete Beach and I've had a Ruby Throat hanging out for the past couple of days. I have (2) Coral Porterweeds (1) Red Dwarf Porterweed and a Purple Porterweed (native plant) that the Ruby was just feeding on this A.M. I also have several other plants that I would hope lure them but he goes straight for the porterweeds. I have been relentless in planting flowers I hope will attract them. I, also, have a huge orange trumpet vine that attracted one for several days last year but it isn't in bloom yet. Two feeders are out and this Ruby has been feeding on at least one of them.
I have almost every attractor outside my kitchen window because they are so quick and elusive. I made sure they are close to a window I am at often and at different times of day. Act like you are a hummingbird stalker and, I think, they will show up.
Good luck!

It's strange to me, with all the food we have for hummers in florida we don't have more birds. I have a very small bird thats here almost year round. I saw him run another hummer off a couple of months ago. So i guess i'll have to be content with just one. I have about every plant you can think of for them. But just one bird and he's content with the feeders. Every now an then i see him/her on my bottlebrush.
Liltrooper, leave the feeder out all the time. he'll find it. When he finds the food.....he'll be back.

We live near Winter Springs and Sanford Florida. Has anyone in this area had any luck seeing the Ruby Red Throat Hummingbirds lately? We had one for a few weeks and now it is gone. Anyone else in Central Florida having any luck?

I'm northeast of Orlando (Oviedo) and have hummingbirds visiting all year long. They are still coming to feeders, but generally stop when the firebush is in full bloom. I have coral honeysuckle which they love in March/April but the couple dozen firebush I have keep them happy all summer. They are very territorial and I frequently see them chasing each other with angry twitters included. If you put out consistently cleaned feeders and/or plant hummingbird friendly plants, they will come.

When we lived in Central PA, no matter how many feeders we hung, the hummers would fight and chase the others away. These seem to get along pretty well!

In our almost three years in Sarasota, we have seen a single hummer only twice (Not the same one, I'm sure). The feeder didn't attract any. These two only showed a fleeting interest in the blueish Mexican Petunias. How common are Hummingbirds here and when can they be expected to show up? Is there a plant they especially like that we could add to our yard? We became very fond of those that used to visit our feeders in PA. We'll try again with the feeders if we know the best time to hang them!

New member, Placed a feeder here last week, we are in Sarasota, had 2 different hummies come by today! Congratulations it's nice that you had a hummer that was familiar with feeders. Most often that's not the case.
