I've lived in both Hernando Beach and now in Weeki wachee for 4 years now and I've noticed in late August ,early Sept. The dragonflies come and the hummingbirds are scarce.. can someone tell me if they will come back over the winter ? During the spring and summer months I've had at least 4 or 5 .. I have firebushes, cardinal vines, trumpet flowers , numerous feeders that are cleaned every three days . Ive planted every flower that is known to attract them and sad as h&&& when I don't see them before work.

The hummers that spend the Summers with us usually are not the same birds that spend the winters with us! The " Snowbirds " as I call them, start arriving in September and will usually not migrate North until March. With a bit of luck you may join many of us who host overwintering hummers. So far, two hummers that spent last winter in my yard have returned the second week of September. No squabbles between these two, they have their own feeders and seem to respect each other's rights! Cheers!
