Receiving daily visits from male Ruby-throated hummingbirds. Yesterday, I observed a ruby on our firecracker ferns at 7:04 am. Sunrise was 7:19 am. I have never observed a hummer visiting in near-darkness.

I have never observed a hummer visiting in near-darkness. When hummers are in their summer or winter grounds they normally will go to roost (sleep spot) a half or hour before sunset. During migration when they only stay for a day or so to rest and feed they will feed well into dusk and near darkness so as to prepare themselves for an early start on their trip the next day.
