I don't know if the bird is still there.
This morning, December 20th, I banded a Buff-bellied hummingbird at Melissa Forehand's home. You are welcome to come by and see the bird, but please contact Melissa first at 850 510-4877 before going to her house. Last year we caught 4 Buff-bellied hummingbirds in Tallahassee, including one that had been banded two months earlier near Pensacola. It was January 2005 when the first Buff-bellied was banded in Tallahassee and it will be interesting to see what shows up this year.
This week's cold weather should bring other wintering hummingbirds to your feeders, so keep an eye out for them and contact me if you would like to have them banded.
