I have hummingbirds in my yard near Alturas. I also have lots of four-o'clocks, lantana and jasmine, angel trumpet and candle bush planted.

Polk County, NE Lakeland, suburban backyard, 1 female Ruby-Throated, July 4, 6:10 p.m., hovered around Pentas and Mexican Flame Vine, didn't feed.
This is the first hummer I've seen here in over 10 years, but I've only recently added potentially attractive plantings. I'll hang a feeder with a bit of nectar this week and see what happens.

Yesterday 8:30 am, I saw a hummer hovering on my bottle brush tree, then he left. I went out on the porch to drink my coffee, half asleep, closed my eyes and said Thank you Lord for all the song birds I hear, it was so many. Then like a minute later I saw it. God is so good to me to give me the desires of my heart. We've been seeing alot of dragon flies lately, and at first I thought could it be a dragon fly? But no it was a hummer. I made some nectar and hung it up, havent seen any thing since, but hoping I do.

I'm in Auburndale. We had our first ruby throated hummer last November. She was here for 5 days and then moved on. I've lived here almost 6 years.
The feeders are out and I almost always have one in view but, so far, nothing. Good to know they are in the area.

I'm still hoping they find their way over to Auburndale. I've got 3 feeders out but, so far, I haven't spotted any hummers.

I can't believe there are so few reports of hummingbirds lately, guess everyone is too busy or just not looking. I'm seeing one every day. I've been changing the feeder every 5 to 7 days and usually there is stuff growing in the nectar. Should I change it more often or is this good enough. How long can I expect to see this great little gift? Thanks

The male we had several weeks ago only stayed for 3 days. I've still got the feeders out there though in the hopes another one will find its way here.

This is to Jennifer Willis. I would like to talk with you about your hummingbirds, I live in Lakeland too. I had one not to long ago but it left, was wondering if you still had hummers, and when do you normally see them, (what months) so I'll be ready for when they come. My name is Linda, my email is hummingbird231@tampabay.rr.com

Ok, saw the hummingbird again this morning,@ 6:45 it used 2 of my little tube feeders. then a mocking bird chased it. What can I do about the mocking bird, any ideas? O When I saw it come back yesterday, I put fresh nectar in all the feeders, and washed them real good in just hot water, and only filled it to where I could see like about a inch of nectar, like I think I read that Steve does, even though it had only been 3 days since i had changed it, just in case I want it to be fresh, so they keep coming back to my yard. I would not worry too much about the mockingbird. The only concern that I would have is if the mockingbird has a nest nearby. In which case, just make sure you have a feeder in another part of the yard.
I've known some who change the solution on their feeders daily. I pretty much have to change mine every other day when they're being used. If you clean them before the solution goes bad, all you should need to do is rinse them with hot water. If you wait for the solution to become cloudy, or for mold to grow, cleaning may be more difficult.
