I finally saw my first hummer of the summer today.
A lot of "new" hummers are currently being reported throughout much of the state. These are most likely young birds dispersing prior to migration. They will likely hang around for a while if the yard is suitable but will eventually migrate out. Even with suitable habitat, some birds will pass right through without staying. I've not found any consistency with these birds coming and going during this time of the year.

Linda, I think I answered your question somewhere else. If not, remind me. I saw one hummer chase another today so I know I have at least two in the yard. I've had multiple sighitngs of a young male feeding at a feeder and on a red Pagoda Flower. I'm assuming it's the same bird but it is possible that I'm seeing more than one young male.
