Looking at the calender today reminds me that the female Rufous pictured in the forum logo arrived here during the second week of August in most of the seven winters that she spent in my yard. Last year was so depressing when she failed to show. I spent much of August standing in my backyard, binoculars in hand, waiting and listening for her arrival, much like Linus waiting for the Great Pumpkin.
Rufous could arrive any time now. Black-chinneds aren't expected until late October and into November. Other species including Calliope and Buff-bellieds aren't typically expected until late November or December although last year's Hillsborough County Buff-bellied showed up in early October.

Steve - Are the non-ruby-throat hummers mostly seen on the west coast of Florida? Not the east coast? We have the ruby-throats here year round, but I don't believe I've ever seen any other species of hummers.
