I received a note a couple of days ago telling the story of a young male Rufous who spent last winter in a yard in Cape Coral - west of Ft. Myers. Photos verifying the identification accompanied the e-mail. The bird arrived in January of 2010 and remained until early May. His gorget filled in as he completed his molt throughout April before being last seen on May 3rd.
The story reminded me of the young male Rufous in a friends garden in 1994 that started my interest in hummingbirds.
