Hi all, new member here from Cape Coral, in Lee County next to Fort Myers. Steve posted about my winter Rufous visitor on Sept. 20.
This morning about 7:45 I had what must be a Ruby fly over my head, did an about-face right in front of me when he saw me, and then went back over to the neighbors yard. Definitely saw the bright emerald back and can't remember the front, so I'm thinking female or young male since I probably would remember seeing any bright red. Think he was heading to my feeder (I have two out) or the firecracker plant underneath.
I've been hearing what I thought was hummer chirps for a few days, so this confirms. Haven't seen him again today but think I'm hearing him in the trees, so he must be a bit shy.
