As of Monday, I have an immature male Rufous in my yard. Have seen him daily ever since feeding at my feeders. Also have 1 or 2 male Rubys and a female Ruby.

Where are you? Exactly? I have one or two male Rubys and, maybe, a female. The hummers are very active over here for the last two days. I am hoping for a rufous. My son-in-law is coming today. He is really into birding and will be thrilled when I tell him about your rufous!! You are a lucky duck!!

I live in South Lakeland, near Hallam and Cleveland Heights. Last winter I had an immature female that came just before our 11 day cold spell and she stayed till early April. I have a friend who lives just south of me and she had an adult female that stayed about the same time frame. Both were caught and banded by Doreen when she came in Feb.
I keep feeders up throughout the year and started seeing Rubys during late Aug. Have had some most of the time since, never more than 2 at a time and they seemed to stay about 2 weeks then moved on. I am hoping the ones here now will stay.
Are you in Lakeland, Lily? If so, please make sure to sign up for the program on Banding that Fred Bassett is going to do at the Circle Bar B Ranch on Jan. 16th. You can go to Audubon.org (I think) and get to it to reserve a seat or I can have Sue, who is in charge of it contact you throught here. Should be interesting.
