A Christmas surprise! Immature Male Rufous at one of my feeders at about 9 am. Harassed by the Ruby-throated's but managed to feed several times during the day. He is out numbered about 9 to 1, so I have suspicions that he may look for friendlier backyards. Hope he stays around for the next few weeks and allows Fred Bassett to band him in mid-january. Joe M. I saw a dark colored one yesterday 12/28/10. I refilled my feeder with juice and this morning it came back. I think there are more but not sure how many. Will keep looking.

Almost two months later he is still here but I'm sure he won't be for long. Joe M. Lakeland Attachments:

What a handsome male! Lucky you! Glad to hear yours is still hanging around! I'm still seeing at least 3, but they are RTH, not other hummer species. Though not sure if they are the ones banded this winter or new birds. But I hope they stick around all year like they seemed to do last year. ;-)

Hope everyone has a Rufous next winter! Spectacular bird and I have seen him transform himself from juvenile to a adult plumage. Great experience! Good Humming Birding Joe M Lakeland Attachments:

It took me a second but I see him. Good shot! Where can I get that plant? Is it Aloe? i see it in a yard on my way to work, but never had the courage to knock on the door and beg for a cutting or a plant.
