Yesterday at 7:15 AM, I saw my first hummingbird ever... a Rubythroat (not sure if male or female). It flew to my Bottlebrush tree.... saw me... and then flew off. Needless to say, I put up feeders and some hanging baskets later in the day. I've been trying to attract them for years and this is the first time I've ever seen one!

That's great. I hope you now start to attract more.
We live in the UK and don't get hummingbirds so I'm on the lookout for them when we come out to Florida in 10 days

If you go to www.gardenweb.com and then to the Hummingbird forum, there is someone else from Apopka that has hummers. Maybe you guys can share hummer stories.

Me too. Ruby Throated male at my feeder on Saint Augustine Beach at about 7pm. I guess the females will be along in a couple of weeks.

Three+ years later and I've moved to Mount Dora. I planted a butterfly garden a couple of weeks ago and added a Jatropha tree three days ago. Lo and behold.... this morning at 7 AM, I was walking by the tree when a female Ruby Throat came and nectared on one of the blossoms! I am sooooooo excited. This isn't a migrant.... This is a native! YAAAAYYY!!! I've been trying for years to get them and now I have one!
Oh yes, feeders are up too!

Hi everyone............ I'm Barb Messimer.... The female Ruby Throat discovered the feeder this morning so I think she'll continue to "hang around here" until time to migrate. She might be feeding young, and I'm hoping to see them with her one of these days.
