The Ruby-Throated hummingbird (red and Green) visits every day. He and a dull brown and white breasted female come every morning and evening to the feeder. I guess he is the male and she is the female because of coloring. I first noticed hummingbirds last year coming to my Canna Lilies, so I located the feeder above the lilies this spring. Now, I have some late planted Gladiolas blooming and I noticed yesterday they were feeding at those flowers. He is protective and will buzz me if I am in the yard and she is feeding. At first I thought he was running her off from feeding, but then I realized when they flew away he was on the side nearest me in a protective mode. They must have keen sight and hearing. I was observing them through the window and I said something and he turned swiftly midair in my direction. They nest in my oak tree. A joy to watch.

I haven't seen the male this week. The female is there eating from the Canna lilies and the gladiolas all plants are yellow in color. Nothing red but the food. Hope he comes back. She is still in the oak tree. She flies close to where I sit and suspends herself in the air a second or so and then gone. Never had them come that close to me before. He was beautiful with strong colors. I'll keep watch.
