In the Lake St. Charles community in Riverview (near Tampa) we have had Ruby-throated hummers every day for about a week. Before that we would see one for a day and then not see any for weeks. My wife saw some babies flying around for a day a few days ago, but the steady visitors now are a mature female and an immature male. We see the hummers on the Firebushes and the Porterweed. We have seven 3 oz planterbox feeders (without the insect guards) and one of them is getting good use by the male. I see them eating insects (I think), and I have not seen the ones in prior years do that. Hummers have been here in the summer months for several years, but this year the ones who stayed in the yard seemed to have decided to stay beginning in late August rather than mid June.
