Hope no one minds me starting a new thread for Lakeland. This rain has the hummers coming to the feeders more, at least in my yard. I know now that I have an immature male and a female Ruby. Each seems to have a feeder it prefers to feed from. I may have a third that comes to the other side of the yard or it may be one of the other two that visits more than one area. I'm hoping they hang around when it stops raining but it makes the dreary day seem happier!

Well, by the end of today, I am pretty certain that I had the following visiting in my yard at one time or another:
the immature male Ruby that I saw yesterday- he likes one of the back feeders, then flies to the same Beauty Berry to sit
an adult male Ruby that showed up today (or it might have been the one I saw late yesterdayevening). This one had an encounter with the immature this afternoon. Seems the immature one stood his ground and the adult moved to the other side of the pool area. It only hovers to feed.
another immature one/or perhaps a female - no color at all in the gorget area and isn't as skiddish as the others are. It fed while I sat under the pergola.
I may have seen another immature male - there were two flying around together and both had a color in the gorget but I know it wasn't the adult male. Both landed in the same Oak tree then the one came down to feed and then went to the Beauty Berry. I never saw the other one at a feeder.
Of course, who knows what will be here tomorrow!

Watched something scary today - an adult male Ruby-throated had been coming to the feeder routinely, about every 15 minutes or so. All of a sudden another showed up and the adult male dropped down out of the firespike and hovered in front of the feeder. The visitor turned and flew into my pool screen. It hung on with its feet but its bill was stuck in the screen. It pulled two times and on the third try it came out. I had just taken a step towards it, thinking I might be able to help. It all happened so fast, all I noticed was the bill and the feet. Don't know if it was a male or female. My overall impression was that it was rather dark, so maybe another male. It is strange as this is the only feeder being used out of the 6 that I had hanging. It was being used by the female but I haven't seen her in a day or two.
