I'm new I've been trying to attract hummingbirds in Riverview with no luck. Am i just wasting my time ,is it to late in the season. My neighborhood is fairly new with not a lot of trees. I've started planting different flowers. Any help?

Welcome! No, you are not too late. In fact, you are just in time to get some of those that might be migrating through and for those that might stay the winter. Trees certainly do help as Hummers like to "bug" the trees as they protein as well as nectar and they will often find a favorite branch to hang out on inbetween feedings. There are discussions on this site as to the types of flowers they like. Look for those with tubular flowers like the perennial Salvias, Firebush, Cape and Coral Honeysuckle, Pentas, Firespike, Firecracker, just to name a few. Hang feeders for them using a ratio of 1 cup sugar to 4 cups water. Water should be hot enough to dissolve the sugar and needs to be changed every 3 to 4 days in our weather. Do not use the red colored solutions you find in the stores. Hummers feed routinely so once you see one at your feeder, look about every 15 -20 minutes and you will probably see it again if it is hanging around your yard.

thanks moboston I think i'm on the right track. I have feeders and some of the flowers you mentioned.
