Late last evening I saw a hummer at the flat feeder that has not been in use by the Ruby-throated hummers. It was rainy and dark so I couldn't tell what was on it but this morning I got a wonderful surprose. I do believe that my female Rufous from the past two years has returned.
The reasons I think it is the same one is that THIS is the feeder she preferred both years. She also has two white spots right above her bill. And I got a picture that clearly shows her band. Now there have been other Rufous females banded in Lakeland, FL but I have the feeling it is her. I added some fresh water to the feeder and as soon as I got in the pool screen door she flew down to the feeder.
This is early for her to show up and that concerns me. Last twowinters it was Dec before I saw her, each time before a real cold front came through. So if it is her, I hope she will stay and not move on. Keep you fingers crossed for me!
I have to resize but I will come back with pictures.
