Hi, I`m a newbe. I live in West Palm Beach and for the first time, I saw a humming bird HERE, for the first time. The bird was kind of dark, wings and belly. I didn`t know we had them down here with the heat and all. Can anyone give some info,ie season;food;plants;breading.... Thanks in advance

Hi Keith:
Congratulations on spotting your first hummer! I live in the Tampa Bay area in Riverview near Brandon and Tampa. I wanted to suggest that you hang a hummingbird feeder as soon as possible, so that your hummer is attracted to stay around. The formula: dissolve 1/4 cup sugar in 1 cup of hot water. Don't add any red food coloring, it isn't necessary. I suggest hanging your feeder right in front of a window where you can see it often so you can watch your hummer feeding. Hanging a feeder will help you to keep your bird around while you figure out which plants would work best in your area. Good luck! Oh - our best feeder tip is to select a feeder that is EASY TO CLEAN! Make sure it's simple to take apart, clean, and put back together.
