First sighting of the year. One male Ruby-Throat. Appeared at 5:57 p.m. Fed and returned after about seven minutes, then flitted around the yard, perched in the Magnolia and returned to feed a total of seven times, until it was too dark so see (me, not the hummer. I'm sure he could see just fine...)
I had to cover my mouth to keep from squealing--I was so excited and pleased to see him.

Follow-up report: Two hummers visited the feeder tonight together! I thought I had a female because I could never quite see her throat but with them showing up together I'm hoping they're a pair.
Totally off topic, I have had a gray catbird at the feeder the past two days. Put out a birdbath and my first customer was a red-headed woodpecker. Add those to the cardinals, titmice and Carolina wrens, I'm in bird heaven. Too many squirrels, though.
