last week i saw about 10 varieties of humming birds, none of which were rt's, bc's, or rufous. i don't know the names of costa rican hummers so i can't tell you what they were. i did not see any as small as my rt's or bc's. i was in the arenal area for 5 days and came back to san jose and stopped at paz waterfall gardens. if you ever go to costa rica see this place. it is scary as heck getting in there [bad road, crazy drivers; but worth the heart attack. the humming bird garden is open for the birds to come and go into the jungle at will. the other bird garden is enclosed as is the butterfly garden. if this pic posts ok, i'll add some. this pic i took sitting by the pool at the hotel in saint joe. this bird was working like a dragon fly over the pool, taking insects from the air.. what a show!
