the last several evenings i have posted myself next to the shrimp plant colony. i know doves and cardinals are late feeders but these feathered gnats take the cake. they feed 2 ft from me after the light has faded a bit and there seems to always be one feeding when my security light comes on. as i've observed my yards hummers for a couple of hours every evening for a weeks now they seem to pay less attention to me. i'm seeing only about one every five days on either of my feeders. so i hang out at the niche cafe. they hardly use the honey suckle these days. and i've noticed flight differences between each bird; such as loud, methodical feeder vs jump all over the place feeder, easily frightened away vs not so.... so remembering last years crop i am sure my two male rts [they have a pretty good variance in size]were with me last year. i saw very little of the female rt last year but more of one this year. can't tell if it is a returner or not. the male black chinned is new to me this year. each night after the security light comes on, i move you chair a little closer. i'm considering breaking off a shrimp plant limb and holding it in my left hand with camera in the right.
