yesterday about 6pm i went to my worship spot and as soon as i sat down i looked up at one of waldo's favorite perches. there he was ... for about 20 seconds and he flew down to a coral honeysuckle glob on the back fence. but instead of feeding in a normal way he dashed into the foliage and immediately back off 3 feet and right back and forth for about 20 times. then he flew away. i didn't go look but was puzzled by his actions. i was wondering if he was trying to intimidate something like a snake or some other threat. anyone else ever seen this behavior?

:)I live in NJ. Last summer a monarch butterfly was at the hummingbird feeder for hours. When our rt came to feed, it did the same thing. Back and forth, trying to intimidate the butterfly, but that butterfly was not moving. Finally the hummer left. I have a couple of pictures, not great, but still captured the moment.

By the way, today, April 26, 2012 is our first sighting of the rt. Thanks for taking care of our little birds. We will do the same until they are ready to migrate back.
