My wife and I found a humming bird with it's bill lodged in the screen of our pool inclosure. The bird was struggling to get free and we went outside and pulled it free and it imeadiately flew away. I did not have time to take a picture because of my concern for the bird. We found a dead humming bird on the inclosure last spring but did not pay much attention. It seams that we have either migrating or permanent humming birds in Indian Rocks Beach. both birds had green plumage on the breast. I would like to know more about the bird and your input would be great.

We all appreciate your coming to the rescue. He or she may very well have not survived without your assistance. Screens are well know to entrap Hummingbirds. As concerns an ID, I can't really help you since I know of no reports of Hummers (other than overwintering Hummers) that would be described as having green breasts. Back and Head yes! All those with significant or predominate green breast feathers are Western or Mexican species. Joe M. Lakeland
