I've been seeing activity by at least 1 (maybe more) female Ruby-throated hummer(s). I have quite a few blooming nectar plants that are considered hummingbird favorites. This bird is not using any of them. Go figure! She goes right for the feeder and then back into the wooded area right next to my backyard.
She always has her back turned to me at the feeder so I'm unable to see her chest area to see if she has the tail-tale sign of a nest band to determine if she is a migrant passing through or a nesting female. I've been seeing female hummers for several weeks now. Last time I saw a male RTH was the end of the first week in May.

I still have adult and juvenile males coming to my plants and feeders. They still seem to favor the Firespike plants and the different salvia plants! I can't help but wonder if they are some of the same birds that I hosted last year. I had mostly males last year, too!
