I'm pretty sure I had a successful Ruby-throated nest in either my or my neighbor's yard this summer. I had a very strongly displaying male and a couple of females visiting my feeder and garden. Then about a month ago I noticed a female come to the feeder and drink and drink and drink. Then later I saw what I think were two different very tiny hummers visiting the feeder. A week or so ago, a male was circling the feeder while another hummer sat and drank. I couldn't tell if the "drinker" was male or female. Yesterday I saw a very busy hummer come to drink at the different ports of the feeder and then hurry off. The energy level of that hummer was very different from the ones who hung around in my oak trees over the summer, so I anticipate that that hummer could be a migrant, maybe? Let me know what you think. This is in St. Johns County, FL near Switzerland or near the Alpines Groves Park off of SR-13.

RJR, You very well may have had a nest and hummers fledged in your immediate area. However when hummers fledge and leave the nest they are very approximately the size of an adult bird. So don't assume that because a hummer 'looks' smaller, that its a very young or recently fledged bird. Avg weight of an adult hummer is actually less than a fledged bird.
