I had the pleasure of watching 2 adult males dueling it out over a feeder I have hanging in my backyard yard near my screen porch. I have been watching every day now for the first males to arrive. I had not seen any hummers since the breeding female(s) and juvies left the beginning of August. Today was the first day of seeing a hummer and I was delighted to see not one, but TWO! I always wonder if the birds that show up are returnees from last Fall/Winter season. In 2011-2012 Fall/Winter, I had at least 2 adult males, 1 juvenile male, and a possible female. I was very surprised that two showed up at my house on the same day! It is possible that there might be a 3rd bird as well, since I thought I could hear another hummer chirping from the wooded area. They were flying around the corner garden area and very close to me. There are always a number of butterflies in that area too. So there was a lot of action going on in the garden today! It was a very good day to sit, watch, and photograph all the critters!

Still continuing to see more adult males moving through as they continue on their migration route. I have not seen any females or juvenile birds yet.
