Saw a male ruby in North Clearwater around 7pm yesterday. He was feeding from my coral honeysuckle, took a few sips from the feeder and moved on. To the best of my knowledge he has not returned. I hope I see more!

Just an update. I have had no activity since September 14th but I did see a female Ruby on my cigar plants yesterday. She had a light reddish-orange color on top of her whole head. Could it be flower pollen? It looked it would be a lot if it was pollen. I got to observe her for several minutes with my binoculars trying to figure out what the color was.

Campsis radicans (trumpet vine or trumpet creeper) might be the source of the coloration. Hummers bury their heads in the flower.
