I have Ruby-throated hummers that overwinter here in my area. I am on the east coast of Florida (Sebastian/Vero Beach area).
I was wondering if folks that live on the west coast or in central Florida have overwintering RTHs as well?

Yes, RTHU's do over winter throughout FL! Including the Vero area. If you observe them after Oct 1st its is most probably a hummer that plans on spending the Winter in your area. For the past 15 yrs or so I have had about 6-8 in Lakeland as well as several other birders here n the area. Steve in Valrico hosts as many as 15-20 every winter. Keep an eye out and a 'maintained' feeder up. Also have Winter blooming flowers present, a big plus! Joe M. Lakeland

Joe - Thanks for your reply to my question. That makes much more sense that they overwinter here throughout Florida during the winter months. I have birds pretty much year round except a few weeks to a month every summer. Usually July or August. This year no hummers in August except the first week and then the adult male RTHs showed up a week ago. New birds appear to be moving through every day or so. Always fun to see who is new visiting the feeders or blooming nectar plants!

In Fort Myers , our Guests show up in early September and leave mid April. In 2011 first bird was a Male on Sept 5 and in 2012 two arrived on Sept 6th, hours apart. Ron The Worst Photographer in FT Myers
