This morning I got my 1st sighting of a Hummer. I could tell it was an adult male because of the dark gorget. He was feeding for only about 1 min. on my cape honeysuccle and then was gone. I could not tell if the gorget was red or not. My hopes soar that he will stay for awhile. I have had feeders out now sence Sept. Oh by "1st Sighting" I was meaning for this season. Jupiter is in Northern Palm Beach County. I am also waiting on the Baltimore Oreole that migrates to my home and stays each winter. I keep an orange or tangerine, cut in half, just waiting on him. Wish me luck! Lynne

On Nov 11th I got my 2nd sighting of a hummer. Just like the first time it was just too short of a time for me to ID it. Again it was in the Cape Honeysuccle. Weekends are about the only time I can sit outside & watch, week days I,m not home from work until it is close to dark. I do see that others are now sighting them here in Palm Beach County. Lynne

Hi Lynne. I live in Jupiter too. For the first time in 20 years, we have a hummingbird visitor. We planted a bleeding heart last year and apparently the hummingbird likes it. I went to Home Depot with plans to purchase a hummingbird feeder or food and I was surprised to find out they don't sell anything for hummingbirds. Do you know where in Jupiter I can purchase hummingbird supplies? Thanks.

Rich, Great to have someone else from Jupiter on this site. Walmart a block over from Home Depot has a great veriety of feeders. I saw this morning either a juvinile or a female ruby on the cape honey succle tree. I also have a bleeding heart but its not located where I can see it while sitting on my deck. That might be where they go when they leave the honeysuccle and fly over my roof. Never thought about them feeding on the bleeding heart. I have that growing over a tressle. What area in Jupiter do you live? I'm close to the RR Tracks. Its easier for me just to make my own Sugar Water. 4 cups water 1 cup sugar. No red dye. Boil until sugar is disolved. Keep in touch and good luck . Lynne

Rich, One more thing. It is so warm here that the nectar only lasts about 3 days before it starts getting cloudy. So it best to just put a little nectar in the feeder and keep the rest in your frig. If the birds start using it up start adding more. I found out most of the hummers I get are happy with the flowers. Last year thoe duriing our coldest cold front, I had one female Ruby that would perch out of the wind about 2 feet from the feeder and then feed every few mins.. She needed that extra energy to keep warm I guess. Hope your hummer sticks around til April. Lynne

I would like to wish everyone a Happy and Save Thanksgiving. This will be a 4 day Holiday for me and I hope to get alot of bird watching done. With this cool front here I hope to see more Hummers. My family always does a potluck type of dinner so no one person is having to do all the cooking. So... while the big bird is in the oven I can watch for the little birds. Lynne

UP Date; I should have spell checked. That was meant to be Safe Thanksgiving. Well I had a wonderful holiday except... Not even one sighting of a hummer. Maybe more will show up the next cold spell. Lynne
