Kimberly Lee,
There are many good choices for attracting hummingbirds including almost anything red and tubular. Being tubular is really more critical than being red.
I was recently asked by Rich Crete of Rich's Backyard Bird's to list my top ten hummingbird plants. I used availability at local nurseries and ease of planting and maintaining as a top consideration in developing the following list.
1. Coral Honeysuckle 2. Red Pentas 3. Porterweed – pink or purple 4. Salvias/Sages 5. Firecracker Flowers (Russelia equisetiformis or R. sarmentosas) 6. Powderpuffs 7. Shrimp Plants 8. Firebush 9. Bottlebrush Trees 10. Firespikes
I hope this helps.
Steve
