The young male Rufous Hummingbird that arrived in my Valrico yard in November has almost completed his spring molt and will be leaving soon. The two female Rufous appear to have left last night. Beautiful Picture Steve! I'm an avid backyard bird photographer myself. I'm here because I saw what I think was a female Ruby Throated Hummingbird in my back yard in north St. Petersburg yesterday. We have a bird feeder and bird bath in our yard that attracts mostly dove, blue jays, wild parrots(?), and the occasional cardinal. I was surprised (and very pleased) to see a hummingbird flitting around a vine on our fence with red flowers. I need to identify the plant and do what I can to help it grow and spread. Luckily I have plenty of time to prepare for their return next year.
Great forum you have here, thank you! I was hoping I could find local info on how to attract hummingbirds, and I found all the info I needed right here. I'm off to continue reading, but wanted to say thanks for creating such a wonderful resource. Us newbies with no knowledge of these amazing little birds sure appreciate it!

How would I be able to attract hummingbirds in Sun City Center? I am caring for my elderly mother and she enjoys watching all of the birds at the feeders. I personally love hummingbirds!
