New to this site and looking to get info on how to attract them. Several weeks ago saw one in my backyard. I immediately put a feeder out by the bushes, no luck. It has come back several times, including today, but is not interested in my feeder. I am going to relocate it and continue trying. Just love the little Buggers. Had so many in West Virginia that they were fighting over the 5 feeders I had put out! Any suggestions would be appreciated. I am just south of Sarasota....Merry Christmas to all!

I just had one today in Orlando. He was eating red Silvia that was still blooming. I went and quickly filled my feeder, but he has not come to it.

You might be better served by posting on an Orlando area thread rather than a Nokomis (Sarasota area) thread. I assume you were referring to a "Salvia" plant variety since I'm unfamiliar with "Silvia". No guarantees that a hummer will go to a feeder since its a "learned behavior", takes a while for a hummer to actually use a feeder, some never do! In any case I wouldn't recommend "filling" a feeder, since any hummers you have will never use it up before it goes "bad". Just partially fill a feeder (3-4 oz's) is enough, and tossing out solution every 4-5 days that goes unused (and goes bad) seems to be a big waste in my mind. Good luck with your hummers, they are around, and will eventually be curious about your feeder and figure out that they contain what they really want, sucrose!
