A Buff-bellied Hummingbird was first seen on January 1st at Castellow Hammock Park in Miami. It was documented by numerous observers on the second and was present today on the third.

Wow! They have such a very small range! I bet that was very exciting. Why do you think it is so far from it's normal range of habitat? I have never seen one, but the photos that I have seen are beautiful.

K. Cobb, Buff-bellied Hummers are found primarily in eastern Mexico (extensively), also with less common sightings in south Texas. Recorded sightings are not unusual, but uncommon, along the northern Gulf coast during the winter months (TX to the FL panhandle) but sightings are very rare in the FL peninsular area. Any sightings east and south of the panhandle are rare, indeed!
