If you're unsure where to post a message, create a new thread on the General Information board. Migrate from the home page to the General Information category then to the General information, News, and Announcements board. Then click on "New Thread" in the upper right.

Choose the appropriate board to report a hummingbird sighting by species (Ruby-throated or non-/Ruby-throated). If the species is not known, post it on the General Information board for further discussion to determine the species.
The boards for posting are as follows:
General Information, News, and Announcements
General Information: Any post that doesn't fit in any other topic. This may include reports of unidentified birds, discussions of hummingbirds reported in the state - including planning trips to see rarities or discussing field marks for identification, distribution, habits, food, etc. Pretty much any topic can begin here. If necessary, we can always shift a discussion to another board if necessary. This is also where questions regarding the operation of this forum or suggestions for improvements can be made.
Hummingbird News and Announcements: Any news relating to hummingbirds in Florida including, but not restricted to: rare bird reports, meetings, presentations, and other special events.
Post Ruby-throated Hummingbird Sightings Here
Report Ruby-throated Hummingbird Sightings Only reports of hummingbirds should be in this topic. Some discussion of a report is expected but I would rather see long discussions on the General Information board. Please post to a topic with your county in the subject or create a new thread that includes the county of the report in the subject. Give as much information as possible in your report including the age and sex of the bird if possible. As much detail about the location the better. The county is important for identifying the distribution of the birds but a more precise description of the location may help others in the area when determining the likelihood of their being able to attract humming birds to a yard or feeders. I've been asked question regarding whether or not hummingbirds may be found on the coast or on islands. Also, note if the birds are at flowers or feeders.
Post non-Ruby-throated Hummingbird Sightings Here
Report non-Ruby-throated Hummingbird Sightings Like the last topic, this board should be a listing of sightings of species other than Ruby-throateds. See the list of species reported from Florida along with some that have been in neighboring states at www.floridahummingbirds.net/10201.html. Please limit the discussion of these birds to a minimum.
Attracting Hummingbirds - Tips and Questions
Hummingbird Feeders Discussions relating to feeder choices, cleaning and solutions. Anything relating to using a hummingbird feeder.
Landscaping for hummingbirds Any discussions involving landscaping for hummingbirds from plants to water features to perches.
Plant Exchange If you've got plants to share with others or are interested in acquiring some, this is the place to let others know what you have or want. I've posted a small list of plants that I've usually got to share. This will be more effective as our membership climbs and includes multiple people from a same location.
Hummingbird Moths and Sphinx Moths I've posted a few photos of sphinx moths from my yard. I'm hoping others will post their photos of sphinx moths here as well. Many people mistake these for hummingbirds. I receive many reports of them. I'd like to build a database of photos of Florida's sphinx moths where others can look for photos of the moths they're seeing.
If anyone needs help with posting photos, e-mail me at backes1@verizon.net. I'd also like to hear your suggestions for other boards to add to this list.
I may move posts to "better" threads to improve searches and to reduce excess off-topic information on some boards. On the other hand, I don't want to be, and don't have time be, the posting police. Please try to keep these "rules" in mind when posting and I'll be forgiving when exceptions are made.
Thanks to all,
Steve
