So I have wanted hummingbirds to visit here at our SW Florida farm and religiously hung two feeders and maintained the nectar year round for the last 2 years. This year around September we finally had activity. First a female ruby throat and we thought she was just fueling up for the trip back south. She has remained in the area still and we are deep into December. Then in early October I spotted a male he looked really small so I do not know if he was a late fledgling, or if he is an adult, he does have a ruby throat but it is not well defined. Currently I am sure of a population of at least 3, two of them are males and one is a female. One of the males certainly is more mature and has a more defined throat color. I often see them buzzing around arguing over the feeders. Now that I know they are here I also made honeysuckle hanging baskets which I hope will flower at some point and I have placed one near one of the feeders. I remembered years ago when I had my farm in Arkansas they went crazy for the honeysuckle when it was in bloom.
