Strange year so far for butterflies and HB moths. We have far fewer monarchs this year than we did last year. I thought there would be more because of all the butterfly weed in my yard.
Still haven't seen any hb moths yet. Both the plumbago and 4 o'clocks are in full bloom but nothing has shown up so far.
I looked back at the photos I took last year and August was when most of them arrived so I've got my fingers crossed that will happen this year too.

I have a 4 o'clock in a pot that is two feet tall. I brought a small flower from my sister in savannah and thought it died this winter. Dumped it out on the ground and it started to grow so I put it in a pot. I need to set out in the yard. Is it a full sun or shade plant. I don't have much shade. What is hb moth? Thanks for any info you can provide.

It looks like they die off each winter but, come May, they are back. Last summer I had 5 different types of hummingbird moths (hb moth). It was really exciting to see all the different ones. I'm happy to say we had our first sighting on Sunday of a white lined sphinx moth. At least I think that's what it was. It was flying around like crazy and it was full dark at the time. Here's one from last year. Once the ones in our area find these flowers, they come back night after night. Hope you have the same kind of luck.

Not a very good photo but I was able to catch this one out in my backyard last night.
