Since I have not been seeing many hummers, I dropped the number of feeders in my yard from 5 to 3. Two of the ones remaining were on my side yard where I had seen 2 hummers last week and 1 in the back.
Last evening, DH came in to tell me that a hummer had come into the back yard and went over by the Black and Blue Salvia. Then it went directly to the Shepaard's Hook where a feeder HAD BEEN since last fall. This was probbly the most visited feeder of the 5. Anyway, he said it hovered all around the hook then took off from the yard. It did not go to the other back feeder at all. i had removed it since the bees were all over it and the squirrel had learned how to knock it off the hook.
Since I had made sugar water earlier in the day, I quickly pulled out clean feeders for the 5 usual spots in the yard. The visitor yesterday had to have visited my yard prior to the last month since that feeder had been removed that long. I am thinking it probably is a migrant who came through last fall. I haven't seen one today so a lesson is learned. Leave them up where they are till you no longer see any for sometime.
Hope some other ones return - the feeders are full!
